Mikati meets Health Minister

Prime Minister Najib Mikati met Monday at the Grand Serail with Public Health Minister, Firas Abiad, who informed his host of the outcome of the talks he had recently held with international organizations’ representatives in Denmark and Geneva.

According to the Minister, the talks he held abroad focused on the fragile healthcare system in Lebanon amid the critical economic situation.

“The international officials showed interest in enhancing the healthcare system in Lebanon, whether through continuous provision of aids or through reinforcing the already existing systems,” Abiad told a press conference following his meeting with the Prime Minister.

“Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has confirmed full support and direct aids will be provided through a bundle of projects and programs at levels such as primary healthcare and digital transition,” the Minister said.

“The meeting with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi,” Abiad continued, “touched on the efforts Lebanon has exerted to contain refugees, whose number now stands at third the population.”

“Grandi has renewed commitment to providing assistance,” he added.
