Tuesday’s meeting between Major General Patrick Gauchat, the Chief of Staff and Head of Mission of the UN Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO), and Najib Mikati, the acting prime minister, took place at the Grand Serail with a delegation in tow.
Ambassador Ziad Mikati, the advisor of Premier Mikati, was present at the meeting.
The discussion allegedly covered a range of Organization responsibilities, including overseeing armistice agreements, keeping an eye on the ceasefire, and helping other UN peacekeeping missions in the area carry out their missions.
During the meeting, Gauchat hailed the role undertaken by the Lebanese government in implementing UN Resolution No. 1701, and the necessity of having all parties work on its implementation.
On the other hand, Premier Mikati met at the Grand Serail with Caretaker Minister of Economy and Trade, Amin Salam, who said after the meeting that he briefed the Premier on the outcome of his recent visit to Qatar, which he described as “positive and significant.”
The Premier later met with Caretaker Minister of Justice, Henri Khour, with whom he discussed relevant ministry affairs and the current situation.
Mikati also received at the Grand Serail MP Bilal Al-Hashimi, who visited him with a delegation of contractual university professors. Discussions reportedly touched on relevant demands.
