Prime Minister Najib Mikati of the caretaker government pointed out that “the rules of engagement along the southern border between Lebanon and Israel remain as they are, but there are no international guarantees that we can rely on.”
Speaking to the Turkish station “TRT,” Mikati highlighted that “given the aggressive mindset of the Israeli enemy in killing children, women, and the elderly, in displacement and destruction, what guarantees can be given when we witness this ongoing aggression against Gaza daily, and no one cares about it or any international reactions.”
Mikati added, “We do not want war; we are seekers of peace, but at the same time, we do not want anyone to violate Lebanese territory.” He continued, saying, “We fully support the Palestinian cause, but we try as much as possible to prevent Lebanon from getting involved in bloody battles.”
