Prime Minister Najib Mikati said, “We place the reconstruction of Beirut Port among our governmental priorities, and we will focus on confronting the COVID-19 pandemic.”
In an interview with Al-Sharq channel, Mikati continued: “We place the reconstruction of Beirut Port among our priorities, and we have 8 months to achieve what we can achieve, and we will work to return Lebanon to the international community. We will ask the Gulf Cooperation Council countries for support, and our rescue plan is ready, and whoever wants to obstruct the government, we will oust him out.”
As for relations with Arab countries, Mikati replied: “We cannot but be in an excellent relationship with Arab countries.”
On the subject of an obstructing third in the government, Mikati said: “There is not any kind of thirds in this government, and any talk about an obstructing or disguised third is not true.”
Mikati indicated that his government needs “a month to start communicating with the International Monetary Fund in order to legislate some laws.”
As for Finance Minister Youssef Khalil, Mikati said: “The finance minister is an academic and has experience in financial matters, and he will not decide alone, and he was working at the Banque du Liban, but what he did in the past will not affect his work in the ministry.”
He also stressed that “the subsidy was lifted almost completely, because we no longer had the money, and not because we decided to do so, and the conditions of the International Monetary Fund were implemented, without us implementing them.”
