The Press Office of Prime Minister Najib Mikati issued the following:
On November 18, the Prime Minister announced in a statement after chairing a meeting of the “Committee to address the repercussions of the financial and economic crisis on the operation of the public facility” a series of decisions, most notably paying a social assistance in the amount of half a salary given for the months of November and December before the holidays, provided that it should not be less than 1.5 million LBP and not more than 3 million LBP. The social grant includes everyone who serves the public sector, including employees, wage earners, contractors, retirees, bill workers and others.
PM Mikati also made it clear at the same meeting that regardless of the date of approval of these grants, they are valid starting from the first of November this year until the meeting of the Council of Ministers, or if there are related procedures, they can be issued through an ordinary decree, but in final, our reference is the Council of Ministers.
Proceeding from the foregoing, work is underway to issue this grant by virtue of an ordinary decree, and it will be paid as soon as it was issued, so clarification is required.”
