Economy minister Amin Salam
The Minister of Economy in the Caretaker Government, Amin Salam, said on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, that Lebanon has requested a shipment of 30,000 tons of wheat expected to be delivered within two weeks.
Salam added in a press conference after a cabinet meeting that the country is in a good position regarding wheat imports.
In this context, the head of economic bodies, former Minister Mohammad Shqeir, called for a meeting tomorrow with all trade unions and economic associations in the private sector in the Beirut and Mount Lebanon Chamber to listen to their opinions and understand the actual economic situation, as Shqeir considered the national economy to be “on the brink.”
Economic sources confirm to “Al-Markazia” that “the Lebanese economy will face a setback that it will not be able to bear, especially the tourism sector, which has faced many difficulties in the past four years, but this setback will not evaluate it, and it will not be able to return as it used to be.”
