Minister of Health: The crisis is prompting the restructuring of the health sector

The Minister of Public Health, Dr. Firas Al-Abyad, held an extensive consultative meeting with representatives of a number of international donor and partner organizations of the Ministry of Public Health, with the aim of informing them of the Long-Term Primary Health Care Support Protocol (LPSP) as an updated strategy developed by the Ministry to move forward with more dependence on the principle of primary care adopted in many From the developed world, through the support of the primary health care network whose centers are spread throughout all Lebanese territories.

Abyad believed that “the unprecedented crisis that Lebanon is witnessing could constitute an opportunity to establish a more effective and sustainable health system,” stressing that “it is pushing for the restructuring of the health sector to meet the current challenges, after it became clear that the old health system is no longer able to respond to these challenges.”

He explained that “the ministry’s strategy is based on informing international partners of the health sectors that are beneficial to invest in and the positive effects that will be achieved as a result of this on the public health reality.”

He pointed out, “The vital role that primary care centers play in providing comprehensive health and medical services, with the exception of hospitalization.”
