Judge Bassam Mawlawi,  the newly-appointed Minister of Interior and Municipalities, made the following statement:

On the International Day of Democracy, I pledge to the Lebanese men and women that, based on my firm belief that elections are the primary gateway to the transfer of power necessary to strengthen democracy in Lebanon, I will work with all my strength and determination to ensure that the electoral elections are conducted with transparency and fairness.

This is something I keep in mind and make a priority.”
