Najib Mikati’s advisor, Fares Al-Gemayel, affirmed that “the main problem behind the failure to elect a president for the Republic and all the issues that arise is the vacuum in the presidency.”

He also mentioned that “Prime Minister Mikati informed President Nabih Berri that he will call for a session on Thursday to discuss the developments in the financial and monetary situations, including the matter of the Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon.”

Al-Gemayel emphasized that “there is no truth to any statements about extending the term of the Central Bank Governor, Riad Salameh, during tomorrow’s session. Prime Minister Mikati’s stance was clear in calling for ministers to discuss the appointment of the central bank’s governor, and there is no pre-determined decision regarding that.”

He further added, “Each party should bear its responsibility, and the danger threatening the monetary situation cannot be handled through media speculations.”
