Musharrafieh discusses with Syrian Minister Makhlouf refugees’ return

Caretaker Minister of Social Affairs and Tourism, Ramzi Musharrafieh, discussed this afternoon with the Syrian Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Hussein Makhlouf, the process to enhance cooperation for the return of all Syrian refugees to their homeland in a safe and facilitated manner.

“The visits shall continue until the return of the Syrian refugees is secured, especially in light of the difficult economic situation Lebanon is facing,” Musharrafieh said in a statement.

He added that “the return of security and stability in several Syrian lands, and the facilities provided by the Syrian state, have encouraged many refugees to return to their homeland.”

Makhlouf said: “The visit is a continuation of the collaborative work between the Syrian and Lebanese sides to address the issue of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, and to secure their voluntary return to their country, while providing them with all facilities including transportation, decent places to live, and easy access to their lost documents.”

“The past period has witnessed an organized return of refugees despite the difficult conditions imposed by the Coronavirus, in addition to the unilateral coercive measures imposed by countries that support terrorism,” Makhlouf said.
