The Syndicate of Traders and Importers of fresh, chilled and frozen meat has warned against closing farms and meat warehouses and stopping the import of meat if Banque du Liban does not initiate, before Ramadan, the late financial payments in favor of suppliers.
The Syndicate attributed the current meat crisis and the increasing prices to the decline in import operations due to the Banque du Liban’s withholding of suppliers’ dues, and the high fuel prices and transportation costs, in addition to the high prices of meat and livestock globally.
