No lifting of subsidies without ration card – Abou Chakra cites Diab

Fadi Abou Chakra, the representative of fuel distribution companies in Lebanon, on Saturday denied social media reports that fuel companies have notified distributors of the lifting of subsidies off fuel, noting that caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab had informed them that “subsidies will not be lifted without a ration card.”

“Such reports disturb citizens who can no longer bear more crises, tension and the kind of news that make them more anxious and fearful of the future in case subsidies are lifted,” Abou Chakra said in a phone call with the National News Agency.

In this regard, he called on Lebanese officials in his name and on behalf of his colleagues in the oil industry to “form a government as early as possible to salvage the country from collapse and citizens from this situation that cannot be tolerated any longer.”

Abou Chakra also urged the need to “work on providing stability to the U.S. dollar exchange rate first and foremost.”
