Deputy Ashraf Rifi, confirmed that he supports Saudi Arabia’s reconciliation with Syria, but with caution, because he relies on “Damascus not continuing the commitments it has made.”
Rifi revealed to “Al-Mashhad” channel that “the Lebanese opposition agreed with the Free Patriotic Movement on the name Jihad Azour for the presidency, but former Minister Gebran Bassil backed down from that.”
Rifi emphasized that “the opposition will not accept or facilitate the arrival of a president who is not a savior, and imposed by Hezbollah.” Adding that he is “in favor of electing General Joseph Aoun in the current phase,” considering that “if the leader of the Lebanese Forces Party, Samir Geagea, decides to establish a new agreement in Ma’rab with Bassil to prevent Suleiman Frangieh from reaching the presidency, it would be a major crime against the Lebanese people, and I do not think he would do that because he is a wise man, and he has learned his lesson.”
