The Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rahi affirmed during Sunday sermon that if our political officials and leaders were humble, then love would calm their hearts, they would rather prioritize the state’s interests over theirs, and they would reconcile with people, so relations with each other would be peaceful, and as a result they will avoid the country the economic and political collapse and the social misery we are going through.
Rahi said that in these tough days, officials are trying to save themselves and their interests, rather than saving the country. They act as if they are solely in a state that doesn’t include people, institutions, and as if the country is not in the throes of a deep financial crisis were people are suffering from poverty, starvation, and unemployment.
Rahi asked whether the reason behind obstructing the government formation is attributed to the official’s intention to terminate the Parliamentary elections next May, and the Presidential elections in October. He added: “Perhaps there is an intention to break down the country, after 100 year of independence.”
Rahi said: “We will not allow the turbulent reality to impact us, as we Lebanese will never die.” He added that citizens will not allow this scheme to be completed, we will not allow the downfall of our great nation, we will not allow anyone to change the democratic system, and we will not allow anyone to counterfeit its identity, or destroy its culture.
