Pharmacies sound alarm, to close on Thursday

A group of pharmacists from different regions decided to close their pharmacies on Thursday for one day to protest the scarcity of medicines and their inability to serve patients.

Pharmacies said in a statement: “We have reached a very delicate stage, as the situation in pharmacies have become tough due to the scarcity of medicines, and in the absence of polices that secure medicines for citizens and sustainability for pharmacies.”

The statement added: “The pharmacies’ strike on Thursday, May 20, will be the last warning to urge officials to find solutions to this crisis.”

“The call for a strike expresses the sector’s suffering, and to urge the government to find appropriate solutions, as the crisis has become comprehensive and threatens the healthcare security of citizen,” the statement added.
