President Aoun believes that social plurality, respect for others are the cornerstone of comprehensive education

General Michel Aoun, President of the Republic, stated that education and teaching are two things that go hand in hand and complement each other, because, as important as education is, schooling of all kinds plays an important role in refining knowledge, developing culture, and strengthening man’s relationship with his homeland, family, and society, because all of this is what makes up the Republic.

President Aoun also believes that social plurality, respect for and acceptance of others are among the cornerstones that must be included in comprehensive education for tomorrow’s citizens, as well as the required foundation for progress and growth.

President Aoun made his remarks during a meeting with a delegation led by Dr. George Nohra from the Educational Center for Research and Development. Dr. Nohra reviewed the Center’s preparations for the 2021-2022 academic year, as well as the different hurdles and the start of the curriculum plan implementation from March 1, 2021 through 2023.

At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the center, Dr. Nohra, stressed the role of the center in light of the crisis that Lebanon is going through, stressing the importance of being a model of steadfastness and hope in these difficult circumstances, especially since it constitutes the thinking brain of education in Lebanon, in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

Dr. Nohra stated the most important achievements and initiatives undertaken by the center during this period with the aim of developing and activating its work, starting with the re-evaluation of the educational curricula for the past school year and the next school year in line with the curriculum of the official exams, taking into account the competencies, goals and knowledge that the teacher must acquire, in addition to completing all preparations related to the digital issue, by realizing the national electronic textbook for the past academic year for learners of the public and private sectors, free of charge, and for the next academic year as well, with some developments to become interactive.

A system has also been developed to manage distance training for official and private teachers for free, in addition to launching a national digital educational platform for official and private, including digital resources produced by the people of the center with resources interlinked with the private sector, which contributed to alleviating waste.

In addition, Dr.Nohra pointed to the printing and distribution of the national paper textbook to all Lebanese learners in public schools free of charge in coordination with the Minister of Education and donors, led by UNICEF, with which coordination is still ongoing. Nohra the. spoke about the implementation of a plan to develop curricula, which has remained unimplemented since 1997 until today, pointing to the organization of work in offices, departments and training centers, in addition to the center’s fulfillment of material obligations towards other institutions such as the insurance, the electricity company and the state employees cooperative, and the development of a unified strategy with the aim of employing the efforts of donors  towards basic priorities.

Moreover, Nohra referred to the issuance of a decision to establish 22 centers for educational difficulties in the teachers’ homes spread all over the Lebanese territories, which contribute to diagnosing the learner’s difficulties, stressing that all of this will help the center to have an effective role, especially by preparing for a project to automate all work to move towards digital governance.

For his part, President Aoun congratulated the center’s custodians, employees, experts and consultants for what had been achieved, calling for continued efforts for a better educational future.
