President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, met at Baabda Palace, with the Head of U.S. team mediating Israel-Lebanon Maritime Boundary negotiations, Ambassador John Desrocher, and resumed latest developments regarding southern maritime borders’ demarcation.
The most essential thing, according to LBC, is that Desrocher will schedule dates for negotiations’ talks with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, and Israel’s New Prime Minister, Naftali Bennett.
The maritime borders’ issue between Lebanon and Israel has suddenly risen to a new level, following the arrival of the Head of U.S. team mediating Israel-Lebanon Maritime Boundary negotiations, Ambassador John Desrocher, to Beirut yesterday afternoon, on an exploratory tour related to the possibility of resuming negotiations. On a side note, Desrocher hasn’t yet been dismissed from his responsibility as the Head of the American delegation to the maritime talks between Lebanon and Israel.
According to sources close to Lebanon’s stance, the delegation is ready to discuss any new proposal in conformity with the Convention on the Law of the Sea and in respect to the conclusions brought by the Lebanese delegation concluded in previous talks regarding maritime borders’ demarcation after reaching Line 29, which is still awaiting an amendment of the Decree No. 6433, which did not enter into force till present, in spite of the fact that all parties are well-aware of the depth of the harm done to the strength and stability of the Lebanese position at the bargaining table.
