Private schools: Government should pay schools’ dues at the exchange rate of 3,900 LBP

The Union of Private Schools held a press conference on Tuesday entitled “Private schools between strike and the end of the 2020-2021 academic year” and came up with some recommendations and proposals that would benefit the education sector.

The conference came up with the below recommendations:

  • Enacting a law considering remote learning an official educational method, which obliges parents to pay the school dues.
  • Banning automatic promotion for students as well as conducting school exams and adopting the grades of these exams.
  • Implementing a safe physical return for all classes, especially kindergarten and first cycle elementary classes.
  • Obliging the government to pay the school’s dues, at the exchange rate of 3,900 LBP not 1,500.
  • Transferring the parent’s educational scholarships that are in the military directly to the school’s accounts.
  • The Minister of Education and Higher Education should officially announce that the ministry will not allow the transferal of students from private schools to public schools for the academic year 2021-2022 before they pay all their dues to the schools for the current year.
  • Conducting a poll for parents to know their opinion and whether they want their children to return to school or to resume online learning.
  • Emphasizing the need to secure free and safe vaccines for the whole educational staff.
