The Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi, renewed his demand for holding the presidential elections on time, saying that “the presidency of the republic is the basis for the existence of Lebanon’s entity.”
He pointed out in his Sunday sermon from Diman, that “Lebanon needs a president who draws the borders of the state not only with the outside, but also inside,” adding: “The president’s ability to face challenges stems from his morals and his immunity to temptations, and the president’s ability is his expertise in public affairs, and does not abide by any conditions.”
He also stressed that “it is our ecclesiastical duty to address the consciences of officials and urge them to form a government and elect a president within the constitutional deadlines.”
