In an attempt to bring the presidential team together with the President-designate Saad Hariri, Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi visited President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, at Baabda Palace, this afternoon.

After the meeting, Rahi said:  I visited the President of Republic before going to Rome for meeting with the Pope, and we carry with us the yearning for Lebanon to preserve its position, value and privacy, and the Pope is keen on this matter”. He added, “The situation is so tense that the World Bank said that we are the sixth country in terms of tragedies, and this requires the necessity of having a government, there is no justification for not having a government or a kind of understanding between Aoun and Hariri.”

The Patriarch continued, “The government is above all considerations, and Lebanon is a country of dialogue, so there should be dialogue. Insults are unacceptable and it is out of culture. We are wounded by the language of insults, and I do disapprove this.” He added, “The propositions and details are fatuous compared to reality. If we go back to the post 58 revolution era, when Shehab formed a government of 4 people, should we still disagree on the number and designations? Why don’t you form a government of “poles”? We want a rescue government that pulls Lebanon out of hell.” He asked, “Where is the role of the officials? Where are the good guys? The country needs rescue, not mutual  moral fighting .” He declared, “We are working and striving to bring points of view closer, but dignities should not be violated.”
