Russian Embassy in Beirut “astonished” by the Lebanese foreign ministry statement

After the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the invasion of Ukrainian territory, and called on Russia to “stop military operations and withdraw immediately”, the Russian Embassy in Beirut issued a statement saying: “The Lebanese Foreign Ministry’s statement raised our astonishment for its violating the policy of disassociation and taking a side in these events, knowing that Russia spared no effort in contributing to the advancement and stability of the Lebanese Republic.

In this regard, we declare that the basis of Russia’s policy is not the policy of encroaching on Ukrainian interests, but rather in order to preserve Russian national security due to the threats posed by the Kiev government, after its repudiation of the implementation of many agreements, especially the Minsk agreements.
In addition, Russia did not launch a war, but rather a special operation aimed at protecting the citizens of Russia and at the request of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics, after Russia recognized their independence. We affirm that Russia always seeks to establish peace, enhance security and combat all forms of aggression, and that every country has the right to protect its national security, including the protection of its citizens.”
