David Schenker
Former US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker considered, in an interview with Al-Hadath, that “Hezbollah is trying to force the Christian community to accept the head of the Marada Movement, Suleiman Franjieh, as president.”
Schenker stressed that “there must be a price for those who obstruct the political process, including sanctions.”
US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Barbara Leaf, announced that US President Joe Biden’s administration is considering the possibility of imposing sanctions on Lebanese officials against the background of not electing a president for the republic.
Barbara Leaf added, “We are working with regional and European allies to push the Lebanese parliament to do its work,” noting that “the possibility of the collapse of the state in Lebanon still exists.”
