Security Council praises demarcation: Major step contributes to region’s stability

The Security Council’s members praised the announcement of Lebanon and Israel’s agreement to “end their dispute over their maritime borders and demarcate them permanently,” considering this announcement “a great step that will contribute to the stability, security and prosperity of the region, benefiting both countries and their people,” which will allow them to benefit equitably from Energy resources in the eastern Mediterranean.

The file of demarcation between Lebanon and Israel was agreed upon under the auspices of the American mediator, Amos Hochstein, while Deputy Speaker of Parliament Elias Bou Saab revealed the expected date for the completion of the agreement to demarcate the southern maritime borders with Israel and the mechanism by which the agreement will be signed, noting that “the signing of the agreement will take place between October 26 and 27.”
