Several mills have stopped production in Lebanon

A member of the Syndicate of Southern Bakeries, Ali Kamiha, warned against “the delay of the Banque du Liban in opening credits for the purchase of wheat.”

He said that several mills stopped production, which led to a severe shortage of flour for the manufacture of bread, and we are on the verge of a loaf crisis if officials do not consider the matter quickly, noting that “there are five ships awaiting payment of their dues to unload their cargos in the port of Beirut.

In turn, the agent of the mills in the south, Ali Ramal, indicated that “despite the small quantities of flour that we obtain from the mills, we were informed at night that the mills are closed today, and we will not receive any quantities. The main reason is that the Banque du Liban stopped paying the wheat credits, which created a state of confusion and chaos in the market.” , especially at this delicate stage, and therefore the Banque du Liban must open credits for an additional six months to secure a reserve that may be caused by the Ukrainian-Russian crisis.”
