Sharks near Lebanese shores… and call to abide by laws!

The Minister of Agriculture in the caretaker government, Abbas Hajj Hassan, has been monitoring the issue of shark movement near the Lebanese shores.

The ministry stated in a statement that sharks are ecologically important fish and are necessary for maintaining the marine ecosystem.

The ministry further added in its statement that upon receiving news of the presence of sharks near the Lebanese shores, the relevant technical bodies within the ministry were mobilized, following the minister’s instructions, to verify the accuracy of the circulating news. It was found that the majority of these reports are inaccurate.

Experts from the Ministry of Agriculture and specialized experts in Lebanon confirm that the Lebanese coast contains various species of sharks, the majority of which are classified as non-aggressive unless provoked.

The ministry emphasized the importance of adhering to the applicable laws, regulations, and government decisions.
