Slight increase in black-market dollar

The black market dollar recorded a slight increase, today, Thursday, as it ranged between 20,675 Lebanese pounds for purchase and 20,625 Lebanese pounds for sale.

In this regard, the Governor of the Banque du Liban, Riad Salameh, announced in a previous statement that the Central Council had agreed to extend the effects of Basic Circular No. 161 until the end of March 2022, subject to renewal.

Salameh confirmed that dealing in US dollar banknotes against Lebanese pound banknotes continues with banks without a specific ceiling on the price of the “Sayrafa” platform.

And the international rating agency “Moody’s” had previously announced that “the recent decision of the Bank of Lebanon, to sell fresh dollars at the price of an exchange platform, will not achieve long-term stability in the exchange rate, and will not change much in inflation levels, in light of The absence of a financing agreement with the International Monetary Fund is conditional on a comprehensive debt restructuring.”
