The following is a statement by Japanese Press Secretary, ONO Hikariko, on the recent agreement over the Israel-Lebanon Maritime Boundary:
“On October 11 (local time), the governments of Israel and Lebanon announced respectively that they had reached a consensus on a draft agreement on the maritime boundary between the two countries.
The announcement this time has a significant meaning not only for confidence- building between them, but for the easing of tensions and stability in the region. The Government of Japan highly appreciates the efforts made by the two countries in the lead-up to this announcement, as well as the mediation efforts by the United States, and strongly hopes for constructive engagement of the parties concerned toward its finalization and implementation.
The Government of Japan will continue to make efforts for peace and stability in the region.”
