Syndicate of Supermarket Owners warns: “We may not accept payment cards in coming days”

The Head of the Syndicate of Supermarket Owners Nabil Fahd warned that “the supermarkets may reach the stage of not accepting payment cards in the coming days if a solution to this crisis is not found,” considering that the citizens and supermarkets are victims of the government and the Central Bank.

Fahd pointed out, in a radio interview, that “the solution to reverse the recent decision that requires the consumer to pay half the bill in cash, lies in two scenarios: the first is for the Central Bank to allow supermarkets to use money from payment cards to purchase goods, while the second scenario is for the rest of the sectors to retreat from their decision not to receive money by using these cards.”

Regarding the repercussions of the Ukrainian crisis, Fahd clarified that prices will surge as a result of the global rise, and the soaring fuel prices, and thus the increase in the shipping cost to Lebanon, describing the situation as very difficult.
