The Head of Bekaa Farmers Association Ibrahim Tarshishi said today (Saturday) that the prices of agricultural products will decline if the Ministry of Agriculture in coordination with the Ministry of Economy continues subsidizing seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides.”
Tarshishi affirmed that the citizens will notice this drop in prices starting from early May, mainly when farmers start harvesting their crops.”
The main agricultural items that will witness price reduction are potatoes, peas, tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, lettuce, onions and green leaves.”
Tarshishi added that maintaining the prices require stability in the dollar exchange rate, along with extending the subsidy program for all the agricultural products without excluding specific items.
Tarshishi added that farmers should continue receiving subsidized fuel oil to be able to irrigate their crops, amid water scarcity. He also stressed on the importance of opening all roads securing safe transportation routes, so farmers can be able to exports their agricultural crops to the international markets. Tarshishi added that the government should ban the entrance of imported agricultural crops that are produced locally.
