The Future of Telecommunications and Internet in Lebanon

Talal Hawat, the Caretaker Government’s Minister of Telecommunications, confirmed today, on Monday, during a session of the Parliament’ Media and Communications Committee, chaired by MP Hssein Hajj Hassan, that “work is underway to overcome various obstacles to the continuity of securing communications and Internet services without interruption.” This is a critical area for both citizens and governments.

During the session, “a presentation was made of the reality of communications, available funds, and available capabilities in light of the collapse of the Lebanese Pound’s exchange rate, and its effects on the level of the Ministry’s budget, as well as the need to work with Ogero to prepare a law proposal in this regard, in addition to following up on the discussion of amending Article 36 of the 2020 budget.”
