“The constitutional electoral right of expatriates has triumphed,” says Adwan

Following the Constitutional Council’s failure to reach a decision over the appeal filed by the “Strong Lebanon” Parliamentary bloc against the amendment to the electoral law, MP George Adwan wrote on his Twitter page: “The Constitutional Council remained apart from all deals, and this is considered an achievement for the members who remained on their position.”

He added: “The constitutional and legal electoral rights of expatriates to vote for 128 seats have triumphed.”

Adwan said: “It is vital to keep this attempted deal in the minds of the expatriates to hold the ruling authority, which expelled them from their homeland and tried to exclude them until the last moment, responsible.”

It is noteworthy that the Constitutional Council, in its seventh and last meeting, which was held today, decided after deliberations on the appeal decision, and because it was not possible to secure a majority of 7 members, that the changes made to the said law are deemed effective.

The report was prepared to notify President Michel Aoun, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Najib Mikati, and to be published in the Official Gazette.
