“The destructive force that Al-Rahi meant is the Iranian axis,” says Kouyoumjian

Former Minister Richard Kouyoumjian affirmed that “the destructive force meant by the Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Mar Beshara Boutros Al-Rahi, is the force that does not want the good for Lebanon, led by the Iranian axis and Hezbollah.”

He considered in an interview that “there are two projects in Lebanon, the first is open to the West, the East and the Arab countries, and the second belongs to the Iranian axis, which wants to strike Lebanon’s relations with the Arabs, so it is normal for us to agree that Lebanon will be sovereign in light of this conflict.”

Kouyoumjian said: “Our concept for the political action is charitable work, and our concept of this work is a message and a public service to improve society and advance nations.”

He added: “People can hold us accountable for the cause, for the project we believe in, and for our political practices implemented, but persistence is in practicing this fixed issue.”

Kouyoumjian said: “People know that in light of these settlements and quotas, the Lebanese Forces remain the only ones that are consistent in their case and have not been drawn into their own or factional interests, neither in the parliament nor the ministries previously.”

Kouyoumjian hoped that the Free Patriotic Movement will join the demand for the disarmament of Hezbollah, and they are welcome to join the sovereign axis, and any new reading of the Mar Mikhael agreement without the disarmament clause is considered invalid.

He added: “We may ally with every person or party that looks like us and wants a “sovereign” Lebanon. On the Lebanese arena, there are Sunni people beyond the future that we may agree with. If the Future Movement wants to join our alliance, it must be in accordance to our clear principles that we will run in the elections, but there is no decision yet.”

Regarding the upcoming presidential elections, he said: “All the specifications of a good president apply to Samir Geagea, the Head of the Lebanese Forces Party, and there is no doubt that he remains the first candidate for the presidency. We only want a sovereign president and we will not bargain on this issue anymore, just as we will not accept a president from March 8, because we do not choose between bad and worse.”
