The head of the Bar Association announced the continuation of the strike: We are fighting a battle to overthrow the police state

“Sawt Beirut International” knew that the head of the Beirut Bar Association, Melhem Khalaf, announced the continuation of the lawyers’ strike and the boycott of investigation sessions and trials in the palaces of justice and courts, which has been going on for three weeks, until “the violations and attacks against lawyers are stopped, and the logic of the police state is overthrown.”

In a meeting held at the lawyer’s house and attended by hundreds of lawyers, he considered that the Syndicate “is waging a historic battle, which is the ongoing battle to protect the citizen until the course of justice is organized.”

Captain Khalaf made a detailed report of the attacks against lawyers since the beginning of the revolution until today. He said, “Despite all the reviews that we conducted with the officials in the judiciary, and their appeal not to take the country to a police state, the response came from the officials, led by the discriminatory attorney general, with “carelessness.”

He pointed out that the union is “open to all the positives and to the endeavors of philanthropists to bring ponit of views closer, but the judicial authorities treat us with absolute disregard, especially by the discriminatory attorney general (Judge Ghassan Oweidat), who responded to our demands to address the violations by saying “two days and they’ll be forgetting.” Considering that “the employee cannot teach the free people how to behave.”

The head of the Lawyers Syndicate insisted “to continue this battle, which is the battle of human and not interests,” considering that “correcting the defect begins with stopping attacks on lawyers and their union, and not bypassing the law and the immunities that the lawyer have.”
