Trucks, buses march from Dora towards interior ministry

Trucks and buses marched on Wednesday from the Dora roundabout towards the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities to join the gathering for which the federations and unions of the land transport sector have called for in protest against the deteriorating living conditions in Lebanon.

The march is set to cross many roads including Karantina, Saifi, Beirut Municipality, Al-Murr tower, Al Hamra Street and Abu Taleb up to the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities.

The head of the Truck Owners’ Union, Shafiq al-Qassis, called on the Lebanese state to “treat them fairly, give them their rights and determine the transport fees for trucks because the maintenance cost has become expensive.”

He also vowed that “the strike will continue until these rightful demands are met.”

“The demands of the transport sector will be submitted in a memorandum to the concerned parties in the ministries of interior and energy,” the representative of fuel distribution companies in Lebanon, Fadi Abou Chakra said, noting that “heads of federations and unions of the land transport sector will make statements during the gathering outside the interior ministry.”

“The mechanical inspection is not necessary in these difficult circumstances,” Abou Chakra said, adding “today, we are expressing our opinion and we will not block roads but this situation can’t last.”
