A number of deputies in the US Senate called on the Lebanese government to preserve the safety of the judges, who are investigating the horrific explosion that rocked the port of Beirut on the fourth of August last year (2020), leaving more than 210 people dead.

A statement issued by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee expressed concern over “Hezbollah’s role in pushing for the decision to suspend this sensitive investigation.”

It also stressed the integrity of the judicial investigator looking into the bombing file, Judge Tariq Bitar, considering that he is a respected judge, who served his country for more than a decade.
