US State Department: Demarcation talks with Lebanon led to fruitful results

US State Department spokesperson Ned Price announced that Senior Energy Security Adviser Amos Hochstein, held talks last week with the Israelis about demarcating the maritime border, and that “the discussions led to fruitful results that reduced the differences between the Lebanese and Israeli sides, provided that the United States of America remains involved in border demarcation talks in the coming days and weeks.”

The Israeli Ministry of Energy issued a statement saying that Israeli negotiators met with the American mediator, “Amos Hochstein”, in an attempt to resolve the dispute on the maritime border with Lebanon.” Adding that “The team listened to the latest developments after the mediator’s visit to Lebanon, and the two parties discussed formulating constructive directions to move forward in the negotiations.”

The statement added that Israel would preserve Israel’s economic and security interests but intended to “resolve the issue in the near future.”
