“We bet on international support for developing agricultural sector”, says Mortada

The Caretaker Minister of Agriculture Abbas Mortada, called agricultural unions to participate in setting the perspective vision of the agricultural sector to confront the accumulated crisis.”

Mortada said during his visit to the Syndicate of Traders at the agriculture wholesale market in Qab Elias, in the presence of MP Michel Daher, the General Director of Agriculture, Louis Lahoud, and representatives of unions and groups of farmers, and exporters. Mortada said: “The ministry is working with the Lebanese Economic attaché’s spread everywhere who are putting tremendous efforts, in order to market the agricultural products abroad.”

Mortada added: “For the short term, we are betting on the international support and aid from donor countries for developing the sector.” In parallel, the ministry along with the unions should join efforts to set an efficient agricultural policy to maintain balance in both animal and agricultural production, and rural development, especially the food industries in terms of quality and quantity. They should also join efforts to provide produce that complies with the international norms and standards, in order to export the crops.

Member of the Parliament Daher called on the official authorities, mainly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to take quick measures that would put an end to Saudi’s ban on Lebanese exports to the Gulf.
