The following statement was issued by the media office of Hector Hajjar, Minister of Social Affairs in the caretaker government, in response to the Banque du Liban’s announcement:

“What was alluded to in the Banque du Liban’s announcement yesterday night concerning its agreement to award 40% of charity society dues transmitted in cash for the year 2021 was in the sphere of talks, not confirmations.”

Therefore, we call on the Governor of the Banque du Liban to officially confirm this decision by issuing the necessary circulars for its implementation. On the other hand, this demand is part of a basket of rightful demands that we had refuted during our meeting with the ruler and the rounds of negotiations that followed him.

As a result, we urge the Governor of the Banque du Liban to formally apply the circular by issuing the relevant circulars. On the other hand, this demand is part of a basket of legitimate requests that we opposed at our meeting with the monarch and subsequent rounds of discussions.
