According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Israel’s Prime Minister Naftali Bennett urged Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison to designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization during a meeting on the sidelines of the COP26 UN climate conference in Glasgow on Monday.
The Iranian threat was also brought up in the conversation, with Bennett asking Morrison to denounce Iran at the upcoming meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
In June, the Australian Parliamentary Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence and Security recommended to the Morrison government that the entire Hezbollah organization be designated as a terrorist organization.
Australia currently considers Hezbollah’s military wing, the External Security Organization, to be a terrorist organization.
In addition to the military wing of Hamas, the bipartisan committee recommends that the Australian government add the political wing to its terrorist list.
