Will Caesar Act apply to the project to supply Lebanon with electricity and gas?

Walid Fayyad, Lebanon’s Minister of Energy and Water, stated in an exclusive interview with “Sputnik” that the country is nearing completion on a project to bring energy and gas from Egypt and Jordan to Lebanon via Syria.

He emphasized that the US government has issued reassuring messages to Egypt and Jordan reassuring them that the business contracts for the delivery of gas and energy to Lebanon are unaffected by the Syrian situation and would not be affected by the Caesar Act of US sanctions.

Fayyad confirmed that the current crisis between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon has a significant and clear impact on Lebanon, despite statements by Minister of Information George Kordahi, and expressed his hope that relations between Lebanon and Saudi Arabia and all Gulf states, as well as relations with the rest of Arab countries, will improve.
