Will “Omicron” make Lebanon ban entry of several African countries’ travelers

Minister of Health, Firas Abyad, tweeted about the “new COVID-19 mutant” Omicron, noting that “Lebanon does not have direct flights from South Africa or neighboring countries, and very few passengers come from these destinations,” stressing that “ All passengers arriving in Lebanon are subject to a PCR test.”
On whether a travel ban should be imposed on travelers from those countries, Abyad said, “The Infectious Diseases Committee will discuss this matter on Monday morning, and this will allow our experts to hold discussions with the World Health Organization, to better understand and determine the measures that should be taken.”
