Banque du Liban harvesting dollars, merchants “infidels”… While Minister in deep sleep!

Lebanese are still waiting for the Ministry of Economy to carry out its duty, as to monitor the goods’ prices that did not keep pace with the dollar exchange rate decrease, and despite the fact that the dollar decreased from 33,000 pounds to 20 thousand pounds, foodstuffs are still sold according to the dollar exchange rate of over 30 thousand pounds, amid a complete absence of the Ministry of Economy.

What is ironic, is that the Ministry of Economy accuse merchants of not complying with its decisions, at a time it is fully aware of their manipulation of commodity prices, but doing nothing about it, while the citizen feels that no state protects him.
Sources revealed to “Sawt Beirut International” website that there are merchants who raise the price of goods in dollars, which prevents the prices from dropping in the supermarket.

The Ministry of Economy stands helpless in the face of merchants, who are adding to the Lebanese people suffering, as the citizen who used to spend $200 a month to buy his monthly needs, requires $350 now, because the goods are still on their price and have not decreased, but the purchasing power has decreased. A Ministry of Economy source says that, “We feel as if there is complete harmony between the Banque du Liban and some merchants, for the Banque du Liban is in the process of harvesting citizens’ dollars that are spent at money changers, while merchants, by not complying with lowering prices, are harvesting people’s money.”

The sources reveal that the Minister of Economy is completely absent, and is preoccupied with government’s meetings, and when he receives complaints from the citizens, which are many, he stands helpless, because we are in the time of parliamentary elections and ” want to stay at good terms with everyone”, and this is an unfortunate and shameful matter against the Minister and the citizens.
Hoping that the minister will wake up from his deep sleep, the bet remains on the awakening of the “infidel” merchants’ conscience , or praying and to God to rid us of the current officials in power, and hold them accountable for their crimes against the Lebanese people.
