40% of the salaries of teachers and employees withheld

The “Subcontractors Movement” condemned what it described as the conspiracy of the Association of Banks under the cover of the Governor of the Banque du Liban, by taking the aggressive decision to withhold 40 percent of the value of each salary and all incentives or monthly benefits for contracting teachers and employees.

To shed light on this topic, we were joined by the lecturer at the Faculty of Science and a member of the committee of contract professors at the Lebanese University, Dr. Ali Fares.

The head of the Supermarket Owners Syndicate, Nabil Fahd, warned that “supermarkets may reach the stage of not accepting bank card payments in the coming days if a solution to this crisis is not found,” considering that the citizen and supermarkets are victims of what is happening between the government and the Central Bank.

Fahd pointed out, in an interview with Sawt Beirut International, that “the solution to reverse the recent decision that requires the consumer to pay half the bill in cash, lies in two tracks: the first is for the Banque du Liban to allow supermarkets to use money from bank cards to purchase materials, while the second track is for them to back down. The rest of the sectors expressed their decision not to receive money using these cards, so that they would be distributed to all sectors and not only to supermarkets.”

In the context of the repercussions of the Ukrainian crisis, Fahd explained that the prices will rise as a result of the rise in their prices globally in addition to the rise in oil prices, and thus the increase in the cost of shipping them to Lebanon, describing the situation as very difficult.
