6.3-magnitude quake strikes off Taiwan’s coast

A 6.3-magnitude earthquake rocked the coast of Taiwan, according to the American Seismological Institute, with the country’s meteorological institute estimating the magnitude at 6.1.

The earthquake, which caused buildings to shake in the capital, Taipei, was at a depth of 27 kilometers off the east coast of Taiwan, which is regularly hit by earthquakes.

After the earthquake, messages were sent to the residents via an electronic application alerting them to the possibility of a tsunami.
