A state advancing… Backwards

We are in the country of missing opportunities and missing deadlines. Two examples from the political reality confirm this. The first: what happened with Amos Hochstein since last February until today. On that day, the American mediator presented a comprehensive proposal to the President of the Republic, awaiting an answer. Of course, the answer did not come, and the system did not remember the issue of demarcating the maritime borders until after Israel began the process of exploration for oil and gas along the Lebanese maritime borders. Only then, duty called for the officials in Lebanon, and they tried to make up for ther lost time by inviting Hochstein urgently to Lebanon. A second example of official Lebanese indifference, is the delay in the government formation process. Today, a full month has passed since the parliamentary elections, and so far there is no new government, and even the President of the Republic was five weeks late to call for binding parliamentary consultations to assign a Sunni figure to head the government. Don’t our rulers know that we live in the twenty-first century and that delays, and procrastination do not lead to any result? The world is moving forward every minute, even every second. Why are we supposed to stay still? Is this a republic of progress and life, or of mummification and permanent regression?
