Are French elections a turning point for Lebanon and the Lebanese?

Today, on April 24th, 2022, marks the second and critical round of the French presidential elections, which will determine who will occupy the Elysee Palace for the next five years.

Since early this morning, French citizens have been flocking to voting bureau to vote for their next president, a choice between outgoing President Emmanuel Macron and far-right challenger Marine Le Pen.

Not just the French, but the entire world, including the Lebanese, are watching the race to the Elysee with bated breath, wondering whether the new president would influence French policy toward Lebanon.

As for the real bet today, it comes on the stage after the French presidency in forming the government and naming the foreign minister. Especially with Le Pen following a completely different policy from Macron.

While awaiting the results, Lebanon remains suspended on the stage of salvation that may come from abroad, perhaps carrying with it a rescue political initiative that imposes a new reality that will lift it from the hotbeds of tension and crises.
