Basil meets a delegation from Hezbollah without agreement

Next Monday is the date for receiving parliamentary consultations. However, the call for consultations does not mean that an agreement was reached on the alternative, and the appointment of the consultations date came, according to the information, after a meeting that brought together the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Gibran Bassil, on Sunday evening with Hezbollah. Some names were discussed, but there was no agreement that the issue would be completed after Eid al-Adha. Hence, the possibility of postponing the consultation date next Monday exists.

Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of the Supreme Defense Council was held, to which the ministers were summoned in a hurry and confined to its ruling members, i.e. the ministers of defense, foreign affairs, finance, economy and the interior only with the President of the Supreme Council, Michel Aoun, and the Vice President, Prime Minister Hassan Diab. It is noteworthy that none of the security leaders participated, and the President of the Council did not summon anyone whose presence is required.

Three topics formed the agenda: The security situation on the eve of Eid al-Adha, and the irony is that the discussion took place in the absence of the leaders of the security services. The second topic is health security while the Minister of Health was not invited to attend the meeting. The third item is studying the request of the judicial investigator in the port explosion to prosecute the Director-General of the State Security Forces, Major General Tony Saliba. Lifting Saliba’s immunity or requesting permission to pursue him will require more time until Judge Al-Bitar re-sends the request and the Supreme Council meets again. This means gaining more time without any resolution of this issue.
