Crimes rising in hysterical rates, so will citizens resort to their own security?

In light of the deteriorating economic and political conditions, Lebanon is facing security chaos, especially with the noticeable rise in the rate of murders, robbery, and kidnapping for ransom, which have become widely prevalent in various Lebanese regions. Fears are sparked that the security forces will not be able to impose full control and combat criminal gangs.

According to the International Information Institute the rate of crimes in Lebanon increased dramatically in the first two months of 2022 compared to the same period 2018, as the number of thefts increased by 365 percent, while the net number of stolen cars increased significantly by 81.5%. Murders increased by 64.7%, and kidnapping for ransom increased by 300% in the same period.

These crimes are likely to grow amid the ongoing economic collapse and the difficulties facing private institutions. The number of murders and robberies will also surge in a country that lacks any accountability or control.
