Doctors of Lebanon elect their captain in Beirut and Tripoli

Amidst the bleak scene in Lebanon and the deterioration of the health sector, as doctors and hospitals were affected by the current economic crisis, the elections for the Medical Syndicates in Beirut and Tripoli were launched this morning.

In the Beirut Syndicate, competition raged between three regulations; The first is complete and consists of independent “change doctors” who are fighting the battle under the slogan “The Syndicate is Revolting” headed by Doctor George Haber, while the second is incomplete under the slogan “Independent Trade Unionists for Change – the Doctor First.” It includes the Lebanese Forces parties, the Phalange, the Progressive Socialist Party and the White Shirts, headed by Doctor Bernard Jarbaka. As for the third list, it includes the Free Patriotic Movement, Hezbollah and the Amal Movement under the slogan “My union is my immunity” and is headed by Doctor Youssef Bakhash.

The list of “My Syndicate is My Immunity” won thirteen members of the union council, while the list of independent unionists for change won two seats, and one seat for the union list is rising.

Then, the second phase of the Doctors Syndicate’s elections, represented by the election of the captain, began.

As for the North Syndicate, the electoral scene is different, as three complete lists compete from outside the traditional political alignments, so the alliances come “according to union programmes,” according to what some stakeholders say to choose three members of the Syndicate Council, including the president, in addition to members of the retirement fund, while Members of the Disciplinary Council won by acclamation. As for the six members of the Insurance and Aid Fund, they are appointed by the elected president and the Council of the Syndicate, when the first session of the new council is held. It is noteworthy that one of the lists includes three candidates for the position of captain.
