Hochstein arrives in Beirut on Tuesday, will he be able to move negotiations forward?

Senior Advisor for Global Energy Security Amos Hochstein and the mediator of maritime demarcation between Lebanon and Israel, arrives in Beirut on Tuesday afternoon for a quick visit that ends on Wednesday evening.

Hochstein will visit the President of the Republic, the Parliament Speaker, the Prime Minister, and the Army Chief to discuss the ideas he carries with him regarding border demarcation and gas exploration.

It is not a coincidence that the Lebanese government preempted Hochstein’s arrival by submitting a letter to the presidency of the UN Security Council, which represents an official announcement to transfer negotiations on the southern Lebanese maritime borders from line 23 to line 29, while retaining the right to amend Decree No. 6433 in the event of procrastination and the failure to reach a fair solution.

What about the importance of solving the border demarcation file for Lebanon, especially since the country it has been suffering for more than two years from the worst economic crisis in its history that led to a financial collapse and outages in fuel, medicine, and other basic commodities.

With complete anticipation, Lebanese are focusing on the Southern borders, on the condition that negotiations will push for a new ownership that will pave the way for a new phase for Lebanon and the entire region.
